Labs
Lab 8.1: Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) Plan and Plumbing Plan
What is the purpose?
Heating, ventilation, and cooling plans identify the location of return and supply
ductwork in rooms. It is important to properly size HVAC units to correctly control the
climate within the structure.
Plumbing plans ensure that pipes are properly laid out for the fixtures with the least
amount of waste.
In this lab exercise, you will draw a heating and cooling plan for the project according to
the directions given on pages 176-178 of the Architectural Drawing and Light
Construction textbook. In addition, you will create a plumbing plan for your project
according to the directions given on page 183 of the textbook.
What are the steps?
• Task 1: HVAC Plan
Procedure
1. INSERT or XREF the floor plan into a new drawing to create an
HVAC plan.
2. Freeze all layers except the walls, doors, and windows.
