Lab 9.1: Electrical Plan
What is the purpose?
Electrical plans assist the electricians locate lights, switches, and outlets. Reflected
ceiling plans are used in commercial structures to ensure the proper placement of all
fixtures on the ceiling.
In this lab exercise, you will create an electrical plan for your project. If you are creating
a commercial structure, a reflected ceiling plan is recommended. The drawing should be
printed on the D-size title block created in Unit 1.
What are the steps?
• Task 1: Electrical Plan
Procedure
1. Take the floor plan created in Unit 2 and XREF it into a new file.
2. Freeze all layers that are not necessary for this plan, omitting only the
walls, windows, doors, bathroom fixtures, and the kitchen layout.
3. Place switches, outlets, and conduit lines on the floor plan to create an
electrical plan.
4. Print the electrical plan on the D-size title block for a critique and
grade from the instructor.

Labs
Lab 8.1: Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) Plan and Plumbing Plan
What is the purpose?
Heating, ventilation, and cooling plans identify the location of return and supply
ductwork in rooms. It is important to properly size HVAC units to correctly control the
climate within the structure.
Plumbing plans ensure that pipes are properly laid out for the fixtures with the least
amount of waste.
In this lab exercise, you will draw a heating and cooling plan for the project according to
the directions given on pages 176-178 of the Architectural Drawing and Light
Construction textbook. In addition, you will create a plumbing plan for your project
according to the directions given on page 183 of the textbook.
What are the steps?
• Task 1: HVAC Plan
Procedure
1. INSERT or XREF the floor plan into a new drawing to create an
HVAC plan.
2. Freeze all layers except the walls, doors, and windows.
3. Draw a heating and cooling plan for the project per the directions
found on pages 176-178 of the Architectural Drawing & Light
Construction: Special Edition—Volume I textbook.
4. Ensure that there is proper spacing within the structure to provide a
chase for the ductwork. This is typically in or near a closet.
5. Print the HVAC plan (M1) on the D-size title block created in Unit 1
for a critique and grade.
• Task 2: Plumbing Plan
Procedure
1. INSERT or XREF the floor plan into a new drawing to create a
plumbing plan.
2. Freeze all layers except the walls and plumbing fixtures.
3. Create a plumbing plan for the project per the directions given on page
183 of the Architectural Drawing & Light Construction: Special
Edition—Volume I textbook.
4. Print the plumbing plan (P1) on the D-size title block created in Unit 1
for a critique and grade.
